Notice Regarding the Blending and Use of Ethanol in Petrol

According to the “Order Regarding the Blending and Use of Ethanol in Petrol, 2026 (2082 B.S.)” published as a notice by the Government of Nepal, Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies in the Nepal Gazette on March 12, 2026 (Falgun 28, 2082 B.S.), Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) will purchase petrol-blendable ethanol produced using the raw materials listed below in accordance with the quality and methodology specified in the Gazette. This notice is published for the information of all domestic producers.

In this regard, the full text of the aforementioned order published in the Gazette can be viewed by visiting the corporation’s official website at www.noc.org.np under the “By Laws” section.

Producers interested in manufacturing and supplying ethanol can register an application with the corporation.

Eligible Raw Materials for Ethanol Production

The following raw materials may be used in the production of ethanol:

1. Molasses obtained from sugar industries

2. Napier grass

3. Wasteful agricultural and forest-based organic matter (Biomass)

4. Agricultural residues such as straw, corn stalks, and wheat chaff

5. Rotten/spoiled grains that are unfit for human consumption

6. Cassava

7. Yeast and other necessary chemicals required for fermentation

Restriction: Grains meant for human consumption cannot be used as raw material for ethanol production.
